Series: Team Fortress 2
Character: BLU Medic || Welfhard Zweig
Timeline: He'll be waking up in Paradise after being killed by a Spy in Coldfront.
Background: Medic was born and raised in Munich, Germany in 1917. (He's 51 now since TF2 timeline is 1968.) Medic studied hard and was in school for most of his adult life in order to pursue his dream of becoming a surgeon. He was a successful Cardiothoracic surgeon for a public hospital, working in the Emergency Ward handling traffic injuries, gunshots and all kinds of varied injuries. Because he was constantly in school and studying he didn't have time to form and sort of relationships and never had many friends. But he hasn't noticed or cared, he has his work and his scientific research to keep him company and that's all he needs.
He was offered a job and subsequently joined BLU in order to come to America and feed his ever growing hunger for more knowledge. His lab at the base in Coldfront is packed with books and magazines on any aspect of health related sciences. He reads and speaks English, German, Bavarian and a small smattering of Russian. Enough that he can decipher Russian anatomical magazines. His job on the field with the team is more a distraction from his research than something he enjoys doing. But it's a means to an end so he does his job and he does it diligently.
Personality: Medic is terrified of fighting. Everyday is a constant struggle to not scream and run away when he's attacked by the RED's. He's always been a pacifist and because of his medical training he abhors fighting and bloodshed of any kind. His job, as he sees it, is to keep everyone on his team fully healed so they can fight the battle. He carries a crossbow and a saw for protection, but he rarely uses them, relying more on his teammates to protect him.
While he's a nervous wreck before the battle, during the fighting he's too busy to be afraid, running around and healing anyone on his team who needs it. He often works himself into exhaustion trying to keep everyone on his team intact and sometimes has to be helped off the field so he doesn't pass out from overworking himself.
While medicine is his primary focus he also enjoys experimentation and creation. The Medigun which he uses to heal his teammates, is his own creation that he invented after looking at models of reactors. It functions by increasing bloodflow of white blood cells to injuries and can not only heal but actually regenerate limbs of the affected person. The main caveat is that the person must have a special heart implant inserted in them so that the healing beam has something to latch onto. It also works better if the wound is fresh since it can't break through already regenerated tissue, it can't regrow limbs lost and healed already (ie: the Demoman's eye). Though he's been working on achieving this.
Another important aspect is the übercharge. The Medigun slowly builds up an electric charge as it heals people, a feedback loop from the heart implant that recharges even faster if the person he heals is injured. Once activated Medic and whoever he's healing become invulnerable for a short period of time, unable to be shot or stabbed, though they can still be knocked back or pushed around. The übercharge only lasts for a few seconds though, just long enough to tear through the other team or take down an enemy sentry. Someday Medic will increase the time, but it will take a lot more time and experimentation.
The Medigun is his pride and joy and the only time anyone will ever see him actively look like he wants to hurt someone is if they touch or damage it. He spends much of his free time cleaning and maintaining it, behind the scenes work to keep his teammates safe and sound even though they aren't aware of how much time he spends for their benefit. He doesn't mind though, the less they pester him the more time he has for additional research and development on his Medigun and other various projects.
Because he's the primary healer of the team, everyone on the opposing RED team is generally aiming to take him down first, so his paranoia isn't unjustified. His back would be a mess of scars from being backstabed if he didn't heal constantly and he wears a thick metal helmet in the hopes to avoid being headshot from Snipers. But he knows he's not good at defending himself so he tends to cower against either Heavy or Soldier's back as he follows them around, keeping them healed as they attack the opposing team. Because of this he has a reputation as being a wimp and a coward, which he is, but the team never taunts him too hard on the off chance he gets offended and refuses to heal them.
Medic can't use the Medigun on himself, at least not for healing, since he can't do open heart surgery on himself to implant the other end of the guns' beam. His one saving grace is that his body slowly regenerates. He can heal a deep cut within minutes, and a severed limb in a few hours. The process is painful, but it keeps him alive. He's able to do this because of a concoction of drugs he injected himself with over a period of several years before joining BLU, that drastically altered his DNA and the way his body processes injuries. The major drawback is that normal medicine no longer works on him. He can't take aspirin for a headache or vicodin for pain, though he can, and does, huff the Medigun on occasion to ease his headaches. Doing that makes him loopy and almost like he's drunk, and he generally doesn't remember what he does afterwards. He can be sedated or drugged into unconsciousness but it takes an incredible amount of drug to do it, and only lasts about half as long as it would for any normal person.

[Video || Action]
[Medic wakes in a strange bed, coming back to his senses slowly, the first arbitrary thought he has is that wherever he is didn't seem to be cold. It had been below 10 degrees when he had been stabbed in the back and fallen. Sitting up with a start, he looks around at the place that was instantly recognizable as a hospital. Pulling his glasses from the night table he pushes them on his face as he gets out of bed, retrieving his clothes from the chair nearby.]
Vat ist... Hallo? Ist anyvon around?
[He pulls on his pants and starts buttoning his shirt as he walks out of the room. Clearly investigating this place is far more important than getting fully dressed or even remembering most of his clothes.]
Can anyvon hear me? I am a surgeon und Medic. Ist somevon here to tell me vere I am? I haff to get back to ze ..
[Whatever it was he had to get back to would have to wait, some doctor had left a tray full of futuristic medical supplies alone and unguarded in the hallway. Medic swoops down on it in an instant.]
Sample RP:
Medic rubbed his eyes with one oversized gloved hand. The smell of the rubber somehow comforting him as he waited behind the caged doors for the battle to begin. Pushing his glasses back up on his nose he stared out at the battlefield, imagining all the various places Spies could be hiding, where a Sniper could set up and kill him instantly. Shaking his head to try and dispel such thoughts he trained the healing beam of the Medigun on Soldier as he gave one last rousing speech before the battle began, only halfway listening as he mentally sorted through the list of things he needed to remember while out on the field, prioritizing who to heal first and who to follow.
The bell rang, signifying that the battle had begun, and with a deep breath he swallowed his nerves and followed Demo out the doors. He waited patiently as he sticky-jumped onto a snowy ledge then turned and started healing Heavy who had finally caught up to them. So far so good. Crouching down he hid behind Heavy, making himself as small a target as possible and keeping his saw loose in its holster in case any Spies approached and tried to stab them. Heavy's constant yelling seemed to indicate that things were going well, but then a well placed bullet from a hidden Sniper took him down. Medic, suddenly exposed, jumped back, letting the nozzle of the Medigun fall down into it's resting place against his leg and pulling out his crossbow as he ran for cover.
Terrified he ran in a serpentine pattern until he was behind a building and relatively safe. His terror melted away when he saw his own team's Spy limping away from the battle. With a job to do Medic regained his composure and darted out to heal Spy, getting a relieved sounding expression of gratitude before the Spy cloaked into blue mist and went back to work. Medic nodded in response, looking around for someone else to heal. He ran back to the respawn, meeting Heavy as he exited the building, starting the whole process again.
This time though, as they approached the middle point, the healing ray that Medic held in his hand started to spark and shake, the beam turning white. He yelled a few words at Heavy who looked over his shoulder and gave him a thumbs up. Right as they rounded a corner Medic activated the übercharge, causing both him and Heavy to start glowing with a metallic blue aura and become invulnerable. Heavy decimated the oncoming team who hadn't been expecting that so early in the battle and Medic grinned to see his beloved invention working so well.
Some days this job was worth doing.
